WhereToInsure (“we”, “us”, wheretoinsure.com) is a directory of insurance companies and agents. This page explains what we collect and why.
What we collect
- When you contact an agent through us: your first and last name, email address, country, any message you write, an optional phone or WhatsApp number, the page you were on, and your IP address.
- Email verification: a one-time code we email you to confirm the address is yours. We keep a scrambled (hashed) copy of the code for a few minutes, and the IP address of the request for up to 24 hours to limit abuse.
- Agents and account holders: business and contact details, plan and payment status, and the sites and content you publish through us.
- Site use: a count of clicks from our directory to an agent’s or company’s own site. The count is per listing and does not record who clicked.
- Settings: your theme and Grid/List choice, stored in your browser.
How we use it
- To confirm your email and pass your request to the agent you chose.
- To keep our copy of a request for 14 days, so it can be re-sent if delivery fails or the agent asks. After 14 days it is deleted.
- To prevent spam and abuse, and to run and secure the site.
- We do not sell your personal information.
Who receives it
The agent you contact sees your first name straight away. They see your last name, phone number (if you gave one) and email address once they accept your request. They also receive your country, message, IP address and the page you were on. From then on the agent is responsible for how they use that information. Agents can agree to our no-share terms (“No Share”), and each listing shows whether the agent has. Your phone number is sent only to agents with No Share: a listing that does not show the agreement means that agent has not promised to keep your details private and may share them. Quote forms from our partners may be shown inside our pages: what you type into one goes straight to that partner under its own privacy policy, not to us.
Agent websites
Agents who use a website from us run it as their own business. Visitors’ accounts, messages and other client information on an agent’s site are held for that agent, who is responsible for them. We host the site for the agent and do not use that information for our own purposes.
Your choices
You can ask us to correct or delete data we hold about you, and you can ask an agent to do the same for data they hold.
Children
The site is not meant for people under 16.

By using WhereToInsure you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
What we are
WhereToInsure is a directory. We are not an insurer, broker or adviser, and nothing on the site is insurance, financial or legal advice. We do not guarantee that any listed agent or company is licensed, suitable or available, or that any quote will be offered. Any advice, policy or claim is between you and the agent or insurer.
Check before you buy
Confirm that an agent or company is properly licensed where you live, read the policy before you sign, and be careful about sharing ID, bank or card details.
Quotes and affiliate links
Some quote pages are provided by partner programs, and we may earn a fee when you use them. Links marked as sponsored lead to other sites that we do not control.
Contacting agents
When you use a contact form we email you a code to confirm your address. We keep your request for 14 days and pass it, with your IP address, to the agent you chose. Check the agent’s listing: it shows whether they agreed not to share your details. Please give accurate details and do not use the forms to send spam or unlawful content.
Agents and companies
- You are responsible for your listing, your website and everything you publish, and you must be authorised to offer the services you list.
- No-share clause (draft). An agent who ticks the no-share box agrees to use a visitor’s details only to answer that visitor’s request and give them a quote or advice about the cover they asked for. The agent will not sell, rent, share or pass those details to anyone else, including other agents and lead brokers, will not add the visitor to a marketing list without that person’s separate consent, and will delete the details when they are no longer needed. Sending a request to extra agents because the visitor ticked them is the visitor’s own choice and is not a breach. Breaking this clause can lead to suspension or removal of the listing and loss of unused leads.
- Agreeing to the no-share clause (“No Share”) is the agent’s own explicit choice, and only agents who have agreed receive visitors’ phone numbers. It is never ticked for them. Each listing shows whether the agent agreed. An agent who has not agreed is shown with a warning that they may share visitors’ details, and carries that responsibility themselves.
- You are responsible for the personal information your own site collects from clients and for handling it lawfully. We host it for you and do not use it for our own purposes.
- Plans, prices and the Direct Contact feature follow the terms shown when you buy them. A plan includes hosting for your site while the plan is active.
- We may edit, decline, suspend or remove any listing, site or submission, including after a complaint.
- Items you submit for the news area need our approval and are limited to 5 a month.
