Are you buying a new car ?

First-time car buyers need to be informed on car insurance facts

First-time car buyers and Car Insurance

For a first-time car buyer, the process may prove to be a difficult decision. Many people that buy a car for the first time are not aware of the fact that they need to have insurance before driving their new car off the showroom floor. Financial institutions providing the finance for the purchase insist on the new, financed car being insured. The main reason for this is that they want to ensure that their new asset is protected.

Get at least 3 Car Insurance Quotes

Never accept the first offer that is given to you. Get at least 3 quotes and compare both the products and cost before making your decision.

Many banks or financial institutions are affiliated to an insurance company or brokerage firm. New buyers therefore may find themselves feeling bulldozed to take insurance cover through the bank’s preferred supplier.

It is important to know that this cannot be enforced on the new buyer and the decision lies with the client. This makes it essential to shop around for competitive car insurance quotes, to ensure that you are offered the best deal. Ensure that both cover and price suit your individual needs.

Do cash buyers need Car Insurance?

Cash buyers are not exempt from getting car insurance for their new car. Car theft, hijackings and deteriorating road conditions are factors that may cause your car to be damaged or stolen. Car Insurance will cover you against most of these unforeseen events, depending on which Car Insurance Option you select.

Comprehensive Auto Insurance: You are covered against accidental damage, theft, fire and third party liability. All new, financed cars have to be comprehensively insured.

Third Party, Fire and Theft: You are covered against third party liability, theft and fire, excluding accidental damage to your own car.

Third Party Only: Third party liability only.

Select ample cover at a price you can afford and that suits your individual needs. You can tailor your auto insurance with a wide variety of Value Added Products at very little additional cost.

The most important fact still remains: Shop around and compare quotes before you decide to purchase car insurance.

Important: Employment Equity Legislation Amendments

In South Africa, we have much legislation governing how we do business, advising and guiding us on who to employ, how to employ, and how to manage those in our employ. These items of legislation change often and are amended almost annually, and so as an employer, one needs to be on top of them.

Employment: Industries

This is not always an easy task, as different Acts apply to different industries. Certain codes apply to certain size organisations. If you do not have an HR Team to assist you with this, it can often become a nightmare.

There are huge fines leviable for non-compliance, and labour inspectors are employed to find the boxes you have left unchecked, sometimes through no fault of your own, but unchecked nevertheless.

Employment Information

I would recommend subscribing to Government Gazettes, and doing some research once a month on all applicable websites, such as the Department of Labour, Department of Education, the SETA your organisation is registered with, and the Department of Trade and Industry. Ignorance is not an excuse for non-compliance and an excuse which the Government officials have grown weary of. Protect yourself, your organisation, and ultimately your employees, by making sure that you consult experts, and that you are always on the pulse of anything pertaining to the law. It will be one of the best decisions you ever make.

Co-creating your Own Economy

<img src="own economy.jpg" alt=Own economy" width="300" height="282">

Co-creating your Own Economy – fears and reservations

According to statistics some of the biggest upheavals and most stressful events in life are divorce, death of a loved one and moving house. Although some of it cannot be prevented and may be external incidents dealt by fate, there is one change that expects you to delve deep within and find a way.

Co-creating your Own Economy!

If you are standing at this crossroad in your life right now, know that it is only natural to be plagued by doubt in your own abilities as well as the fear of failure. It is a daunting thought to step into the unknown. Many people have done it with minimal resources and a positive mind, and came out shining.

You may think you don’t have any skills or talents, but experience will prove you wrong. You do have skills and useful abilities that will contribute to the success of creating your Own Economy. But you can only discover them by taking the plunge and trust in the outcome. Intention of the heart and mind is a powerful creator, and whatever your skills may be, there is a place for you in the greater scheme of things.

I took the plunge about a year ago, and I still remember waking up in the early hours of the morning, riddled with anxiety and panic. How am I going to survive?

A year later I can truthfully say that I have all I need on every level, and been awed by the generosity and kindness of like-minded people. I have discovered strengths I never thought I had, and have been gifting my skills to people less fortunate in ways I’ve never imagined. And it’s only the beginning.

All it took was the decision to surrender, faith in a Higher Intelligence, and trust that I will be sustained (without the Government). By meeting the right people to make up my pod of co-creators, I now know that it can be done.

Put your fears to rest by knowing that you do have a purpose, and that you are a valued contributor to any just cause. It’s time to grow up and join your soul family, so that you can create your Own Economy and provide for yourself.

The pride in Quality Website Content

<img src="website content.jpg" alt="Website content" width="300" height="199">

The website is the face of your business. This is the very first thing potential clients come across. And as the saying goes: First impressions last. Clients believe that what they see is what they will receive, in quality and service. A poorly designed website implies the same about your business and the services it renders; and nothing else will convince anybody otherwise.

On the flipside, a good website with impeccable content promises just that! That takes you halfway there. This is where your business will have to live up to these promises and to your clients’ expectations, for starters. Make sure the business doesn’t let your website and its content down or vice versa. Don’t let yourself down; develop something you (and your mother) can be proud of.

Whether you trade from an upmarket address or a cyber business, website content must always be of the highest quality. Sometimes it should be even more so for the online businesses where the website provides the only means of information about your business. You don’t have a nicely decorated reception area or even a good looking front of house person to rely on for a good first impression. The content of the website is therefore just as important as the home page. In these fast moving times, potential clients want easy access and quick information to keep their attention. Remember, the next website is just a click away.

Physical businesses with the right location and all the proper trimmings like the fancy office, shop, modern decor etc. have a bit of an advantage. The more feet there are casually passing by your door in a day, the greater the chance of potential clientele. The value of visibility should never be underestimated, but that is just a bonus. You still need a good website with proper content, as that is the way most clients go about these days. It is just so much easier.

With the high cost of advertising these days, a website with good content might be an easier and more thorough solution to get the word out. This is also a sure fast way to get clients to come to you, even though other informal means of advertising like “word of mouth” and “walk in clientele” is just as valuable. Why not take advantage of every means of cheap or easy advertising.

Then there is always the matter of pride and good service. Is it still important to either business owner or client? So many people just accept bad service these days! And why does it sometimes seems like an uphill battle to get the service and professionalism you pay for? You end up feeling betrayed by a fantastic website and its empty promises. What will you then do as a potential client? You will tell everybody you know about your bad experience, of course! The easy “word of mouth” advertising will then bite you in the heel.

Chase after Success

Success will pass you by if you don’t make a grab for it

The secret to success

Henry Ford, named ‘Businessman of the 20th Century’ by Fortune magazine in 1999, made an absolutely brilliant comment which I firmly believe contains the secret to create your own success. He said: “Whether you believe you can do a thing or not, you are right.”

Pause. Read those infinitely wise words again and ponder the profound message Mr. Ford, the incredible successful American industrialist and founder of the Ford Motor Company, delivered to the world.

Here follows some rules on how to create your own success.

Rule 1: Know what success means to you

You cannot chase after success if you don’t have a clear picture of what success is. People’s definitions of success differ. For some success means being a good husband or father and seeing to it that the kids have college funds. For others success means having a multi-billion dollar company and a fleet of hot wheels in the driveway. Be realistic and level-headed, and meditate long and hard on what real success actually means to you. Then go out and create your own success.

Rule 2: Know and love yourself

Identify your weaknesses and love yourself despite of it, and identify your strengths and love yourself because of it. Make peace with yourself. Look yourself in the eye and give yourself a good prep talk. You can and will be successful. Why? Because you have what it takes inside of you! Believe that you can do it. Anything is possible with positive thinking and hard work. Attitude is the driving force behind success.

Rule 3: Be hungry for success

Decide that you’re worthy of success and make a definite decision to go after it. Success will pass you by if you don’t consciously make a grab for it. Wishful thinking isn’t enough. You’ve to put some muscle behind it. You’ve to want success so badly that you’ll actually roll up your sleeves and start to create your own success.

Gurbaksh Chahal once said: “If you genuinely want something, don’t wait for it – teach yourself to be impatient.” Why wait? Successful people are go-getters, not procrastinators. Never wait on success, chase after it!

Rule 4: Have a goal in mind

Success can only be achieved and measured ones you have specific goals in place. Setting goals will help you to put forward a clearly defined action plan as to what you’ll have to do in order to reach said goals.

Diana Scharf Hunt, best-selling author and time-management guru said: “Goals are dreams with deadlines.” Put your dreams / goals on paper. Work out a practical step-by-step plan as to how you’ll implement your dreams and then tackle step number one without further ado.

Rule 5: Never lose sight of a goal

Henry Ford also used to say: “Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.” Don’t be swamped by the here and now. Take a step back and have a look at the bigger picture. Remind yourself of what your goals are and stick to your plan. Don’t get side-tracked. Keep your eyes on the goal and work towards it.

Rule 6: Celebrate along the way

Remember, one climbs a ladder step-by-step. Make those steps as big or as small as you like, as long as you start climbing them immediately. Acknowledge each step taken as a goal reached. Pause for a moment to congratulate yourself on what you have accomplished and then steel yourself to take the next step.

Well, what are you waiting for? Go create your own success!

Go on a Funky Road Trip!

Funky Road Trip

Make time fly whilst on a funky road trip!

The open road, a breeze through your hair, blue summer skies, and a body in every seatbelt. A road trip can either be loads of fun or absolute disaster! Depending on how you spend your time, makes time fly or be very long and tedious. Here are some funky road trip ideas for adult or children’s games, to kill time and boredom:

Hot Seat. Each passenger gets a turn in the “hot seat” being interviewed by the other passengers. They choose five questions to ask the person in the hot seat. The hot seater can refuse to answer one question only, the rest must be answered.

License Plate Decoder. Decode a possible personalized message on every license plate . “HDR 732″ might stand for “Hairdresser Diva Roller-derby, 7 hours a day, 32 days long.”

Odd Colored Car. Each passenger chooses an odd colored car eg. yellow, purple, orange, or pink. You get a point for spotting cars of your color. Steal points from each other when spotting another passenger’s color first!

Casserole Game. The first person starts with: “I’m making a casserole and I need artichokes.” The next passenger must recite the previous ingredients and add one, starting with the next letter in the alphabet. Try to get to Z.

Listen and Draw. Each passenger gets paper and a pen. (Except for the driver, of course!) The first player draws a quick picture and then describes the picture to the other passengers, giving detailed instructions. The passenger whose picture most closely resemble the original, then takes the lead role.

Would You Rather? One person offers various options to other passengers of either wonderful, horrible, painful or embarrassing situations. Find out who would rather jump in a flaming volcano than sit in a cage of snakes. Or who would rather appear barefoot to George Clooney than with hair curlers in her hair to Leonardo DiCaprio

A little imagination goes a long way to make a long way seem short! Create your own or adapt these funky road trip ideas to suit the passengers.

How to Start a Blog and Make an Impact

<img src="start a blog.jpg" alt="Start a blog" width="300" height="150">

How Difficult is it to Start a Blog ?

It is actually very easy to start a blog. All you will need to make a basic blog is access to the internet and a bit of time. There are a few simple steps you can follow to start your own blog and start to make an impact on the community of followers you are going to build.

Choosing a blogging platform

There are many blog platforms to choose from when you start a blog and many of them are free if you only want to build a basic blog. You don’t even have to buy a domain name when you start out if you don’t want to, or want to get used to blogging first before moving on to a paid platform. Two of the most popular blogging platforms are Blogger and WordPress. But there are a few questions you need to ask yourself before you start a blog.

Why do you want to start a blog?

Before you start a blog, you first need to know why you want to blog and what it is you want to share with the world. Perhaps you only want a personal blog or a family blog which only you and your family can read. Or do you want to start a blog showcasing your hobby? Or perhaps you want to start a business and want to start a blog as part of your strategy. It makes the process a lot easier if you decide beforehand what it is you want to achieve with the blog.

Do you want to generate income with your blog?

If you want to generate income with your blog from the start, you may have to consider buying a domain name from the outset. You can then use advertising services to generate income. Or you can sell services or items on your blog (if you, for instance, have a hobby blog).

When you do start a blog, remember that you do it to enjoy it. Use your passions in life to see what it is you want to do. By sharing your passion, you can make an impact on others’ lives and make a difference in your community of followers.

What does your financial future hold?

<img src="financial security.jpg" alt="Financial security" width="300" height="200">

3 Tips on how to take responsibility for your financial future

Your financial security is the structure of your future wellbeing. Here is the ABC – easy to remember tips – on how to take responsibility for your financial future:

  • A – Assess

Spending money without knowing the ins-and-outs of your current financial status quo could be an irresponsible practice, and possibly get you into dire money difficulties before you know it.

To begin by assessing your financial situation is a sure way of knowing exactly where you stand. It will give you a clear picture (the bigger one) of your current and future financial situation, how to achieve a reasonable living standard and maintain it, as well as assisting you in setting goals for the future.

If you are finding it hard to make sense of your assessment, speak to a reputable financial advisor to give you sound advice on how to take responsibility for your financial future.

  • B – Budget

Keeping a budget is the gold card of financial transparency.

By keeping a monthly record, (book or spreadsheet), noting your income (credit) and expenditures (debits), you’ve achieved an important step in taking responsibility for your financial future.

Make a note of the things you spend money on that is not included on the normal debit list. Add that to your budget too. It will give you a pretty good idea whether you are pouring money down the drain or not.

  • C – Cleanup

To ‘cleanup’ in a financial context, means the following:

  • Putting a plan in motion to cleanup all your debts by becoming debt-free
  • Getting rid of all clutter (including unnecessary financial indulgences)

The Way Forward

Even if you are in a relationship that supports you on a monitory level, it is ultimately your responsibility to ensure your personal financial future. Independence is a good thing in the long run. Life is unpredictable and one should at least make sure you have a cushion to land on when the relationship tumbles.

Slaving away and living frugally needs to be balanced by a reward or treat every now and then. It’s really ok to take a holiday, enjoy a spa-treatment or purchase a luxury item.

You’ve worked for it, you deserve it!

How to …

<img src="How to google.jpg" alt="How to google" width="300" height="200">

How to … do anything

If you enter “How to” into the Google bar, there are hundreds of suggested how to’s: from how to fix something to how to lose a guy in ten days. We have become so assured that we will always find the answer in a Google search bar, but reality is Google can’t answer all your questions. One of the questions we all have pondered at one time or another is:  How do you actually get him or her notice you?

No clue? Well the answer is pretty straight forward – you  have to take the first step. Well that is my first suggestion. The step forward allows you to  put your actions into motion and you would not have been thinking of that moment if you have not already strategically planned the next step. The moment you take the first step is absolutely nerve wrecking, I know it and millions of others chasing love will also tell you that.

Getting noticed is something you have to plan strategically. You wouldn’t want to come across as egotistical or completely out of your comfort zone. The best way is to create a frame of mind where you feel safe and by that I mean you become “your confident self”. A sure-fire way of getting someone to notice you is to strike up a conversation. You’d be surprised to learn how many doors a simple “Hallo” or “Hi” opens.  Those simple words lay the foundations for the creation of a conversation that is mutually interesting. Don’t ask what planet you from or use weird pickup lines – every second person does that and your aim here is to stand out.  Introducing yourself is vital in ensuring that you stand out. Try to avoid questions that evoke only “yes” or “no” responses as they tend to be conversation killers.

Getting someone to notice you can be as hard as you want it to be. Never give up! The person you are looking at might just be the one… Don’t let the opportunity pass you because you think otherwise. Take risks – they might just pay off and if it doesn’t it is not a deal breaker, because it teaches you a lesson to just stand up and try again.

Meditation and YOU

<img src="meditation.jpg" alt="Meditation" width="300" height="198">

Meditation, Meditating and the Art of Mindful Communication

I am somewhat of a latecomer to the art of meditation, but better late than never is what they say. I came to it through a rather round-about way. By unexpectedly landing a job working with homeless people I was confronted with my age old problem of not being a good listener. Off to the bookstore I went and purchased a book. The Five Keys to Mindful Communication by Susan Gillis Chapman is what I found. She starts off her communication remedies with a recipe for meditation on page 12:

“Suggestions for maintaining a (meditation) practice:

  • Find a place that feels right to you and create an environment that reflects dignity, warmth, and openness.
  • Choose a time of day when you feel alert.
  • Turn off phones and other distractions.
  • Decide on a length of time and stick with it, using a timer or a piece of incense.”

As someone who has not been in the habit of practicing meditation, I find it very hard to actually do. The effort of making meditation a high priority in my daily life, where it has to compete with other major functions like eating and sleeping is quite big. So the most natural thing is to turn to YouTube for some inspiration and help. I came across any number of guided meditation sessions that last from ten minutes up to over eight hours. A guru like Alan Watts would argue that meditation for any purpose is a sham, but I found the different themes like meditation for clear mind, or healing the body very useful.

Ultimately, what I have learned over the last three weeks of practicing different styles of meditation is that it is a method that puts things in perspective. How then can this be useful in communication? It is like the author Susan Gillis Chapman says: “The point of open-minded meditation isn’t to try to get rid of thoughts. The point is merely to relax, unfreeze the mind, and allow the thoughts to flow instead of getting tangled up in them.” In a conversation this helps to not take yourself or the other person too seriously, or to get carried away into over-reacting.
